Lemon Verbena, Alyosia triphylla, has aromatic, culinary, medicinal, and ornamental uses. Lavender flowers in late summer and fall. Grows 2-6’. Zone 8-11. If you are planning a fragrance garden, lemon verbena should be at the top of your list. It has a sweet lemony fragrance and attractive foliage. Use the leaves to make a delicious lemon-lime tea or add them anywhere you want a touch of lemon. It brightens up the taste of fish or poultry and can be added to marinades, salad dressings, jams, puddings and beverages. Goes great in potpourri. To take lemon verbena through the winter in this area, you will need to plant it in a container and take it inside during the winter months. It needs a loamy, moist soil and is a heavy feeder. It is native to Chile and Argentina.
